NEWS

This section is meant to collect any new stories about the South Beach Diet. Check back periodically for news on clinical studies, new books and cookbooks, and more.

Clinical Trials

There have been numerous clinical trials testing all fad diets to come out over the past few years. These trials help to dispell any misleading ideas about certain diets, like the claim that the Atkins diet was completely healthy and safe to follow. Trials showed that blood pressure problems could result, as well as extreme stress on the kidneys.

In the case of the South Beach Diet, there have been group trials that have shown its efficiency in helping people to lose weight, while not depriving them of health or wellbeing. In 2004, Dr Agatson looked at a study that followed 54 subjects and it showed that they lost weight while following the diet. Kraft foods did a study of 69 people in 2005 and found that they too lost weight during the trial.

Books

"The South Beach Diet: The Delicious, Doctor-Designed, Foolproof Plan for Fast and Healthy Weight Loss" was published in 2003 and began it all. This book is the first step for someone to really delve into the diet. It provides the basis for which one follows the diet.

The latest books to come out have been mostly cookbooks and meal planners, and also "The South Beach Heart Program: The 4-Step Plan that Can Save Your Life" which is a companion book for the diet.
