MOTIVATION

Whenever you undertake a diet, it can always be stressfull and terribly hard to remain focused and motivated. Even with friends and family by your side, there will always be times when you will feel tested, or tempted and it will really push you to the edge. Knowing what you are aiming for and why you're doing what you are doing is a huge part of the battle, so in this section we will highlight a few ways to maintain the motivation you had when you started your diet.

Being mindful of the factors that led you to begin your diet is your first line of defence. Maybe write some down on a sheet of paper to keep in your purse or at your desk. Keep a picture of someone who is counting on you to succeed (such as a child) that you can look at to remind yourself why you're doing this.

Every once in a while, try on a dress or outfit that is meant for your ideal weight. Picturing yourself looking as good as possible in it will give you the strength you need to keep going.

To help curb your cravings for bad food choices, try to reward yourself on a regular basis. Maybe allow yourself a favourite cookie every Friday that you stay true to your diet. Have a "sponsor" that you can call if you're feeling weak and might falter in your diet.

Also, when reading books on the South Beach diet, you could mark pages with important passages and reread them every so often and when you're being tested. The overlying trick through everything is that you find something that TRULY touches you to the core, something that you can't easily ignore, and use it somehow to push yourself. Read all you need to know then make it a personal challenge to follow it until you reach your goals.
